Functional Active Ingredients

  • Extracts of (1:5 double extraction)

Croton lechleri. This oleoresin from a tree, high in the Peruvian Andes, tests as one of the highest concentrations of antioxidant flavonoids in the plant kingdom. Flavonoids comprise 90% of the resins constituents. These flavonoids have been shown to suppress hydroxyl radical-mediated degradation of DNA.  The total reactive antioxidant potential (TRAP) index is 935.

The resin also contains a rare alkaloid called taspine  which dramatically speeds the healing of wounds, scrapes, lacerations and abrasions. The resin stimulates contraction of wounds, helps in scab formation, increases the formation of new skin and collagen. Taspine is also a potent anti-inflammatory. It is 3 to 4 times more effective for inflammatory edema than phenylbutazone and shows a greater reduction in polyarthritis-associated inflammation than indomethecin.   The resin also contains phenolic compounds with powerful antiseptic qualities. These compounds are 30 times more effective than either penicillin or chloramphenicol against bacteria.  In all there are over 40 known bioactive compounds and because of this Sangre de Grado acts as a multi-functional agent.  ,  

Sangre de Grado has antiviral properties . Research has shown it to be effective against the herpes and polio viruses.  
Sangre de Grado is present in the formula at 10%. It carries the key actions of anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, wound healing and antimicrobial.

Coleus forskohlii. Coleus forskohlii may be used to accompany any formula or therapeutic approach that works to restore correct cellular function. Such situations include: allergies of all types, asthma, autoimmune conditions, abnormal cell growth, and endocrine disorders. Its principle compound, forskolin, activates andenylate cyclase and raises intercellular cAMP.   cAMP is depressed in psoriasis. Forskolin has been found to stabilize the cells that release histamine and other inflammatory compounds.   Coleus in included in the formula as a dried extract standardized to 10% forskolin.

Mahonia aquifolia. Mahonia is an important source of the anti-inflammatory berberine alkaloids. The plant also contains antibacterial and antifungal compounds.   Specific research has shown the whole plant to be effective as a treatment for psoriasis.  ,  Mahonia also delivers antioxidant action.

  • Grapeseed oil. Grape products contain oligomericproanthocyanadins (OPCs) a potent flavonoid compound and antioxidant. These are highly protective against a range of toxins and carcinogens.   The oil contains linoleic acid, an omega 6 EFA, at some of the highest levels of any fixed, carrier oil. This speeds wound healing and cell regeneration.
  • Coconut oil. Coconut oil is extensively used in Ayurvedic medicine as a treatment for the skin. The indications are dry, cracked skin, rashes, burns, swellings, sores, eczema and fungal infections. The oil is also antiseptic.
  • Shea butter. Shea butter is probably the best moisturizer for the skin. It naturally protects the skin from UVA and B.
  • Aloe vera juice. Aloe vera juice is a demulcent. It is soothing and anti-inflammatory and extremely safe to use on the skin.  , , ,
  • MSM. MSM occurs naturally in many ripe fruits and vegetables. It is one of the least toxic compounds in biology, similar to water. The anti-inflammatory actions of MSM are documented. The molecule is readily absorbed transdermally and easily dispersed throughout the tissues.  
  • Rosehip oil. Linoleic and linolenic acids. These are essential fatty acids.  Said to be high in Vitamin A.  
  • Dead Sea salt. One the shores of the Dead Sea five large medical clinics attend to patients from all over the world with psoriasis. The principle treatment is immersion in the rich salts (33%) of the Dead Sea.  The expectation is complete remission within two weeks.   The salts are one of the most complex blends of ionized minerals and trace elements.
  • Honey. Honey has an ancient and well-deserved reputation as a skin healer and antimicrobial. Research has shown that honey is a valuable treatment for psoriasis.   honey has also been found to control herpes and was more effective than the drug acyclovir.
  • Evening Primrose oil. Evening Primrose oil is an important source of gamma-linoleic acid. This fatty acid converts the aracadonic acid pathway from the production of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins to anti-inflammatory prostaglandins. The oil has been researched and found to be effective in eczema and other inflammatory skin conditions.   
  • Ascorbyl palmitate. This is a lipid soluble form of vitamin C.  This vitamin, which is potentiated in combination with vitamin E is used as an antioxidant in the formulation.  ,
  • Vitamin-E. Important oil soluble antioxidant vitamin. Potentiated in combination with vitamin C. The source is an all natural one not synthetic. The later is used in not all natural products.
  • Water. Water is the universal solvent able to extract key constituents from complex sources such as whole plants. It is also the unifying medium for this formula. The gel which is the foundation of the Professional Acne Clear is based on the properties of water. Dr Masaru Emoto’s of Yokohama University has shown the relationship between the crystalline structure of frozen water and changes in thought and consciousness. Water is  influenced by its surroundings and in particular those people in proximity to it. Water is also the carrier of the homeopathic fraction of the formulation.  
  • Xanthan gum. Natural, safe, polysaccharide for the formation of a soft feel to the emulsion. Holds water as a colloid.
  • Emulsifying wax. Emulsifying waxes are plant compounds used to create and sustain the base of a cream by binding oil and water to form an oil-in-water emulsion.
  • Stearic acid. Stearic acid is a natural long-chain fatty acid. It is used to form the emulsion.
